The pressure drop per depth of a fluid flowing through a packed bed of solids is calculated here. The Kozeny-Carmen equation is used. The diameter entered here is the diameter of the volume equivalent sphere. The void fraction or porosity of the bed is also required. The sphericity of a particle is the ratio of the surface area of a sphere with the same volume as the given particle to the surface area of the particle. Sphericity examples are: sphere=1.0, 4:1/cylinder=0.734, and 4:1:1/prism is 0.677.
